Opponents of unequal marriages (when one of the spouses is 15 or more years older) often recall the famous painting by Vasily Pukirev "Unequal Marriage", written in 1862. Like, what is there to talk about, everything has long been said by the classics. But opponents of mixed-age marriages are making a terrible mistake.
Of course, the artist was not original in his idea. He simply embodied the trend that was in the air at that time in his picture. Quoting from Wikipedia:
In the middle of the 19th century, the issue of the disenfranchised position of a woman, a girl without dowry, being married off against her will, became painful for Russia.
Fragment of the painting "Unequal Marriage" by Russian artist Vasily Pukirev
Remember: the problem that the society of that time had grown to realize was that girls were given in marriage without their desire and even against their will. Age has nothing to do with it.
In about the same way as in our days society has grown to the realization of such a problem: an imperious official can afford to touch journalists with impunity and obsessively offer them to sleep in exchange for some good. Until now, many seem to be quite normal. But the voice of those who do not consider such behavior of officials to be normal is heard louder and louder.
Here, in a similar way, the problem is not that there are government officials, famous artists or rich daddies. The problem is that any men should take into account the wishes of the girl, respect her right to free choice without any pressure. Not to impose yourself is still a novelty for many. This is new to people regardless of their age, status and material well-being.
And returning to the topic of unequal marriage, I want to say that the age difference does not affect the happiness in marriage. Looking for the key to happiness is not there!
