New Year’s Eve vs. Christmas
I am sure it is not a secret that New Year’s Eve is more popular holiday than Catholic Christmas at Ukraine. Why is that? The cause is in soviet history period and attempt to replace religious holiday for secular. As result Christmas is “new” holiday for many Ukrainians now and New Years Eve is old “proven” event. Main positive thing is that Ukrainians don’t reject any of those two holidays, and now both are integrated to Ukrainian culture and life. So it would be correct to name this message “New Year’s Eve AND Christmas”.
New Year’s Eve still is main event for Ukrainians so all attention of them (and me of course) focuses on it during these days. Night from December, 31 to January, 1 is the main night for most people of Ukraine and Russia (may be more important than Birthday!).
There is one good tradition for this night. During the time when clock strikes twelve times of midnight Ukrainians fill glasses with Champagne, think about most desired wish and drink that Champagne. Prerequisite for the fulfillment of desire is condition to drink all champagne until twelfth stroke of clock.
Of course I will take a glass in right time, make a sip and dream about wonderful future with my soul mate. And I am sure that many men and women of this site will do the same! So I want to wish а fulfillment of that desire for all members of this site!
Christmas is behind, but New Year is coming. So…

Happy New Year! Happy love for all!

Marina.
