So, in my last article, I talked about my love for literature. This time I want to talk about historical reenactments. I love history. Especially the history of the Middle Ages.
The romance of the era of valor and courage, knights without fear and reproach, beautiful ladies, selfless loyalty and heroic deeds - as we know the High Middle Ages today - is the merit of the nostalgic imagination of the gentlemen of Victorian England. Beginning in the 19th century on the archipelago, attempts to hide in the ideal world of castles, tournaments and knightly honor spread throughout the continent, and the Arts and Crafts movement of the late 19th century awakened a taste for manual labor that had dulled over the century of the industrial revolution. The Pre-Raphaelite movement, which gave the ideal medieval fantasy a visual embodiment, completed the transformation of the idea of the Middle Ages as the golden age of European culture and morality. Unsurprisingly, the first attempts to recreate the Middle Ages date back to the reign of Queen Victoria. The staging and reproduction of military events began as an attempt to preserve the memory of the soldier's feat, honor the fallen comrades and pass on knowledge about historical events to descendants. Back in the early 19th century, hardly a couple of decades after the events themselves, Napoleon's campaigns and the Battle of Waterloo were reconstructed in England. The events of the American Civil War were regularly reproduced by veterans of the battles themselves, and by the middle of the 20th century, many anniversaries of high-profile battles marked large-scale costume reenactments. Military reconstruction has firmly entered modern culture as part of patriotic education, involving new and new participants in its orbit, fueling interest in recreating costumes, household items, bladed weapons and other weapons of the past.
So, if you have an interest in history and similar events, then I am happy to talk with you about it) Are there such exhibitions in your country? Maybe you even take part in them?
