The habit of our women to independence and the ability to independently take on "non-female" affairs are also conditioned by other historical circumstances. Cossacks often died in battles, died in a foreign land or returned home crippled - and the entire burden of household and child-rearing fell on the woman. And also the land had to be cultivated, the harvest had to be harvested in order to feed the family; if necessary, defend your own to the end. That is why the Ukrainian woman became like this: “gentle as a cat, but hard as steel”.
