Epiphany is one of the main 12 Christian holidays, which ends with Christmas. According to tradition, today people consecrate water and dive into an ice-hole, symbolically cleansed of their sins.
After the ceremony of consecration of water, people rush home for the festive table with kutya and lenten dishes. Traditionally, the first kutya is tasted by the one who returned from the river last. Today it is also customary to sprinkle holy water on an apartment and pets to protect themselves from misfortune and disease.
